The Paris 2024 Games will leave a lasting imprint on the territories. From sports infrastructure to urban development, the innovations promoted by the EDF Group will benefit as many people as possible.
“Les Belvédères”, the place to be
The Athletes' Village has given way to a sustainable neighborhood, located in the communes of Saint-Denis, Saint-Ouen-sur-Seine and L'Île-Saint-Denis. The EDF Group, notably through its subsidiaries EDF solutions solaires and Dalkia, was involved in its construction, which was designed to meet environmental and societal challenges. The buildings alternate wood and low-carbon concrete. They also incorporate major innovations in energy management and indoor air quality. A solar self-consumption system spread over 15 roofs covers an average of 20% of the Belvédères district's electricity needs.
The Aquatic Centre one step ahead
Destined to host the water polo, diving and artistic swimming events during the Paris 2024 Games, the Centre Aquatique, located in Saint Denis (93), also bears witness to the ingenuity of its creators. Most of the structure is made of wood, and the roof's inverted vault is covered with 4,680 m² of photovoltaic panels installed by EDF solutions solaires. This contributes around 20% of the building's electricity needs. What's more, 90% of the energy used for the aquatic center's needs will be renewable or recovered energy. Dalkia, a subsidiary of the EDF Group, will be responsible for all technical maintenance operations for the energy system, and is committed to energy performance.
Built at the heart of the Vaires-Torcy leisure island, the Vaires-sur-Marne nautical stadium is ultra-versatile. Equipped with Omniflots® obstacles (patented by Hydrostadium, an EDF subsidiary), its technicality level makes it world class infrastructure.
A multi-function nautical stadium
Rowing, para-rowing, canoeing-kayaking... the Vaires-sur-Marne (Seine-et-Marne) nautical complex, inaugurated in 2019, adapts to the sports and levels of participants. The secret? An agile water supply system, designed with the expertise of an EDF Group subsidiary. Patented mobile obstacles enable the water movements in a whitewater stadium to be varied according to the expected audience (tourists, schoolchildren and competitors).
