December 16, 2024 – In response to the extensive damage caused by Cyclone Chido in Mayotte, the EDF Group is mobilizing to support Electricité de Mayotte (EDM)[1] in restoring access to electricity and rebuilding the electrical network.
To address the consequences of this major climatic event, EDF Group is deploying a system with human and material resources in close cooperation with public authorities and local players.
- On Sunday, December 15, 15 EDF employees from Réunion Island arrived in Mayotte with 10m³ of equipment: emergency cables and tools. First, EDF teams will work alongside local teams to carry out diagnostics, including equipment inventory, securing the electrical network, and performing urgent power supply operations.
- The Nuclear Rapid Action Force (FARN), specialized in crisis management, has also been activated to provide additional logistical support (setting up a living base).
- Other employees are pre-mobilized and ready to intervene as soon as conditions permit: 15 EDF employees from Corsica and 30 volunteer employees from the Rapid Electricity Intervention Force (FIRE) of Enedis.
EDF in Réunion Island will facilitate the arrival of all EDF Group teams mobilized to join Mayotte.
The EDF Group reaffirms its commitment and solidarity with the population of Mayotte during this difficult period.
