January 4, 2025 – In response to the extensive damage caused by Cyclone Chido in Mayotte, the EDF Group continues its mobilization to support Electricité de Mayotte (EDM)[1] in restoring access to electricity and re-supplying the electrical grid.
Since December 15, 2024, to address the consequences of this major climatic event, the Group is deploying a system with exceptional human and material resources, in close cooperation with public authorities and local stakeholders.
EDF and Enedis teams mobilized in the first days following the cyclone to deliver essential equipment necessary for securing the electrical grid. Today, on-site operations continue in support of Electricité de Mayotte (EDM) to re-supply the grid.
- 89 EDF Group employees have been mobilized in relay. As of now, 75 EDF Group employees continue operations in support of Electricité de Mayotte: 48 Enedis employees, members of its Rapid Electricity Intervention Force (FIRE), 17 EDF SEI employees, and 10 employees from the Nuclear Rapid Action Force (FARN). Partner companies of the EDF Group are also present alongside the teams from Electricité de Mayotte (EDM), EDF, and Enedis. New reinforcements are expected, including 32 new FIRE members this weekend, bringing the total number of Enedis employees mobilized on-site to 80.
- FARN, specialized in crisis management, has also provided additional logistical support with the installation of 2 living bases.
- 200 tons of network equipment (cables, repair kits, tools, etc.), 60 vehicles (including 11 aerial lifts), and 220 generators (including 20 high-power ones) have been deployed by the EDF Group. Equipment is transported daily from Reunion and Paris. For example, a cargo plane carrying 100 tons of equipment was chartered by the EDF Group this week.
With its role as a logistics platform, EDF in Reunion continues to facilitate the arrival of all EDF Group teams mobilized to join Mayotte.
To help the populations affected by the cyclone, a fundraising campaign has been set up by the EDF Group Foundation for the Group's employees. The funds collected will be matched up to 200,000 euros by the EDF Group Foundation and will support two locally established associations: the French Red Cross and the Apprentis d'Auteuil.
The EDF Group reaffirms its commitment and solidarity with the population of Mayotte during this difficult period.
