Abidjan, at the heart of African innovation

The EDF Pulse Africa Tour finally ended its last West African step in Abidjan, in Ivory Coast, on Thursday, November 9, 2023. This annual tour, launched in 2019, gave the opportunity to 20 start-ups specialized in low-carbon energy from different countries on the African continent, to see their solutions rewarded. EDF is keeping its commitment in Africa by becoming the ramp for African entrepreneurial innovation by rewarding African start-ups for their innovative solutions.

Under the patronage of Mr. Mamadou Touré, Minister of Youth, Professional Integration and Civic Service, 8 start-ups from Ivory Coast, Nigeria, Senegal and Togo presented their innovative projects in front of a full panel of experts in the field, composed of Mahamane Sow (EDF Regional Director for West Africa), Christ Anderson Ahoua Boua (EDF Africa Communication Manager), Guillaume Herry (President of the Abidjan Sustainable City Club) Nadeige Tubiana Ouattara (Managing Director of Trace Côte d'Ivoire),  Sergine Diome (Deputy Managing Director of Conergies), Marjorie Saint Lot (Director of UBER Ivory Coast), Colombe Yao Djirebo (Co-Founder of SmartFin Patrimoine), Jean Eric Minoungou (CEO of Green Engineering Services) and Hafou Touré (Technical Advisor to the Minister of Trade and Industry).

After several hours of deliberation, two prizes were given to West African start-ups:

DATA 354 wins the first prize EDF Pulse Africa

The ivorian start-up Data 354 supports governmental, public and private institutions in data expertise. It also proposes to set up a web application to indicate carbon stock, biomass and to measure the vegetation index in areas intended for agroforestry.

Coup de Coeur prize was awarded to the start-up Schrödinger Technologie

Schrödinger Technologie, a Nigerian company, specializes in the development of portable water purification devices that can be replenished by solar energy and a filtration technology that eliminates 99% of viruses and bacteria in 90 seconds.

DATA 354 is the last finalist of the Tour. It joins Pylon, Knights Energy Kenya, SeaH4 PTY Ltd, ATAREC and Diwa Innovation for the EDF PULSE AFRICA Grand Final in December 2023.
