Starting off in Europe then expanding internationally, EDF Renewables has gained solid expertise in developing, constructing and operating offshore wind farm projects.
Devising renewable energy development projects
EDF Renewables is involved at every stage of a project (development, construction, production and operation-maintenance), thereby controlling the quality of the facilities and guaranteeing the utmost level of reliability and performance. For more than ten years, we have built our expertise in offshore wind power in Europe and now employ over 500 people dedicated to this activity.
A project designed with the local area
In June 2020, the EDF group announced the start of construction on its second offshore wind farm project off the coast of Fécamp in Normandy. The planned production will cover the equivalent domestic electricity consumption of more than 770,000 people, or over 60% of the inhabitants of Seine-Maritime.
Acting to protect the environment
Each project is based on stringent consideration of environmental challenges and draws on numerous studies conducted over several years. For each project, EDF Renewables works in liaison with renowned experts, in collaboration with local structures (environmental protection associations, fishery committees, research laboratories, etc.) to produce a full environmental diagnostic (marine mammals, avifauna, fishery resources, water quality, currents, etc.).
Integrating local challenges
The EDF group and its EDF Renewables subsidiary are committed to understanding the challenges facing local areas in order to devise suitable and cohesive projects that are respectful of human activities. The projects are based on the cohabitation of activities and are the result of several years of technical and socioeconomic studies and dialogue with all stakeholders in local areas and users of the sea.
