POWER ARC WITHSTAND TESTS ON INSULATOR STRINGS FOR OVERHEAD LINES

EDF Power Networks Lab performed several power arc test sequences up to 63 kA to check withstand of two composite insulator strings and their accessories. These strings were assembled in an atypical configuration called “CICA Cross Rope Towers”. They are designed for equipping 500 kV overhead transmission lines.

With our big dimensions porticus-fitted outside test area, this unusual test could be performed. As a matter of fact, 8 insulators with their accessories, 18 conductors and busbars were assembled between the two porticus forming a 26 m line section, allowing to simulate the HV line.

Our customer could attend the tests and expressed his satisfaction for the skills of our test team.
